I started the initial backup on wifi, then, once the sparse-bundle was made, finished it with the drive connected directly to my MacBook Air. I believe the MacBook Pro did it's initial backup over WiFi, just let it run overnight. One issue is that I haven't been able to do a full restore over WiFi, I had to do a direct connection.
